چکیده

J Korean Assoc Oral Maxillofac Surg 2012;38:264-70) Many oral and maxillofacial bone defects are not self-healing. Guided bone regeneration (GBR), which uses a barrier membrane to prevent the soft tissues from invading the defect to enable slower-growing bone cells to penetrate the area, was developed as a therapy in the 1980s. Although there has been some success with GBR in some clinical situations, better treatments are needed. This review discusses the concept of GBR focusing on bioactive membranes that incorporate osteoconductive materials, growth factors and cells for improved oral and maxillofacial bone regeneration.

Bone Tissue Engineering: a Mini-Review

Despite advances in bone tissue engineering, auto grafts from intra-oral or extra-oral donor sites are still the gold standard for treatment of large craniomaxillofacial defects. Biomaterial development, application of growth factor, and stem cells, open new gateway to bone regeneration studies, but real translation from bench to bedside have not yet happened. In this review article, a number o...

Application of platelet-rich plasma for enhanced bone regeneration in grafted sinus.

PURPOSE The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on new bone formation and remodeling after grafting of the maxillary sinus with an algae-derived hydroxyapatite AlgOss/C Graft/Algipore. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fourteen consecutive patients with severely atrophic maxillae underwent uni- or bilateral grafting of the maxillary sinus with a mixture of col...

Alveolar cleft repair in adults using guided bone regeneration with mineralized allograft for dental implant site development: a report of 2 cases.

Alveolar bone grafting is an integral part of the surgical management of oral clefts. The rationale behind alveolar cleft repair includes maxillary arch stabilization, closure of the oronasal fistula, nasal base support, nasolabial soft tissue reconstruction, and creation of bony support for tooth eruption or dental implant placement. Currently, the graft material of choice is autogenous bone g...

The effect of freeze-dried bone allograft and partially demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft on regeneration of rabbit calvarial bone defects: A Histological and histomorphometric study

Background and Aims: Reconstruction of osseous defects is one of the ideal goals of periodontal treatments and dental implant therapy. Different biomaterials have been used for this purpose and many studies have tried to compare and introduce the best ones. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of PDFDB (Partially Demineralized Freeze-Dried Bone Graft) and FDBA (Freeze Dried Bone Allog...
